Why this is extra nifty

The Mastodon and Bluesky options are new, thanks to my blog host, Ghost. They've been hard at work setting up federation. You can think of it as a plumbing hookup connecting Ghost publications to the wider online world. It decentralizes social networking, getting us all away from the model of walled gardens and power-mad oligarchs. Here's an excellent explainer about federation:

The fediverse, explained
It’s Mastodon, it’s Threads, it’s the future, and it’s extremely confusing

I've written before about how I think the walled gardens approach has hurt us:

Wrenching out of the morass of Meta
Why and how I’m getting away from Facebook and Instagram, and what I’m replacing them with.
Beyond the walled gardens
A month into a new way of being online has me feeling fresh and hopeful, even in the midst of the world’s horrors.

I'm happy to see this step in the right direction!
